Personal Injury Experience

  • Represented Crawford County when structural failure of a bridge caused three deaths. The bridge over a rural county road failed following heavy rains leaving a 50 foot wide, 25 foot deep gap in the road. Two vehicles carrying three people drove into the abyss resulting in their deaths. One of those killed had a spouse that required special medical and vocational needs that the deceased spouse provided. Utilizing the same forensic engineers used by the U.S. Government to analyze the structural failure of the designs of the Federal building in Oklahoma City, the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, and the Minneapolis Interstate bridge collapse, we negotiated settlements of all three claims below the county’s $2 million dollar liability insurance policy limits.  D’Amico v. Crawford County, Illinois, Circuit Court for Crawford County, Illinois.
  • Represented the City of East St. Louis in a case where an employee claimed two separate injuries, including contact dermatitis and a psychological injury, as a result of her work environment in this workers’ compensation case. Petitioner employee’s treating physicians testified that her injuries at a minimum were aggravated by her work environment. We had the petitioner examined by an independent medical examiner who opined that petitioner’s conditions were not caused by her work environment and were likely the result of outside factors. Following this evidence, the arbitrator decided for the employer. Mosley v. City of East St. Louis, Illinois Workers’ Compensation Arbitration
  • Won a motion for summary judgment on behalf of Illinois Bell Telephone. Plaintiff was severely injured in a head-on collision in a construction work zone. She brought suit against various companies performing work in the area, claiming their activities resulted in a condition of the roadway that caused her vehicle to swerve into oncoming traffic. Sims v. Illinois Bell Telephone Co., Madison County, Illinois
